====== Restoring the Factory Image on Your La Salle High School Elitebook 2760p Tablet ====== ====== Restoring the Factory Image on Your La Salle High School Elitebook 2760p Tablet ======
 +====== Introduction ======

+Now that you are leaving La Salle High School, you may re-image your tablet. This will remove all La Salle High School restrictions and software. Doing so will delete all data on your tablet. Make sure your data is backed up prior to proceeding. If you are using File History to back up your data you will not be able to restore it in Windows 7. Create a backup using some other method before following the steps in this guide.
 +
+With this guide, you should have received a USB flash drive which contains a restore image. This drive is your recovery media. It will be used to restore your system to its factory state. It is important that you do not modify or save any files on your recovery media. Doing so may prevent you from being able to restore your computer.
 +
 +===== Overview =====
 +
+Restoring your tablet to its original state requires three general steps, listed below:
 +
+  - Restore the BIOS to factory defaults.
+  - Restore the operating system to its default state.
+  - Configure the operating system.
 +
+The order of these steps is important. If you do not restore your BIOS to factory defaults, you will not be able to restore your operating system. If you do not restore the operating system, you cannot configure it!
 +
+===== What You Will Need =====
 +
+  - Your recovery media issued by La Salle High School.
+  - Your HP EliteBook 2760p laptop computer.
 +  - This guide.
 +  - About 30 to 60 minutes.
 +
+====== Restore the BIOS to Factory Defaults ======
 +
+The first step to restoring your tablet is to reset the BIOS settings. We restrict settings in the BIOS to improve security. In order for you to be able to boot your recovery media, you need to remove these restrictions. All of your data on the computer will be inaccessible after this step! Have a backup!
 +
+  - Start with the computer powered off and plugged-in to your charger.
+  - Turn on the computer. When you see the HP logo, tap **F10** on the keyboard. You will be taken to the BIOS login screen.
+  - Enter the BIOS password **hpdev2012** and press **ENTER**.
+  - Click on **Reset BIOS security to factory default**.
+  - At the warning screen under **Do you wish to proceed?** click **YES**.
+  - Click on **Restore Defaults**.
 +  - At the //Load Defaults// screen, click **Yes**.
+  - Click on **Security** at the top of the screen.
+  - Scroll down using the arrow keys or arrows in the top right and click **System IDs**.
+  - Click **Notebook Ownership Tag**.
+  - Type your full name and press **ENTER**. You may also press space and enter to leave this blank.
 +  - Click **Notebook Ownership Tag 2**.
+  - Type your full phone number and press **ENTER**. You may also press space and enter to leave this blank.
+  - Click **File** at the top of the screen.
+  - Click **Save Changes and Exit**.
+  - At the //Save Changes and Exit// screen, click **Yes**. The computer will reboot.
+  - If you see a dialog prompting you to //Clear the TPM//, press **F1** on the keyboard. The computer will reboot.
+  - If you see a dialog prompting you to //Reset Fingerprint Sensor to Factory Settings//, press **F1** on the keyboard. The computer will reboot.
+  - You may see a blue BitLocker recovery screen. Hold down the power button until the tablet powers off.
+  - The BIOS has now been restored to factory settings. You are ready to restore the Operating System.
 +
+====== Restore the Operating System ======
 +
+The second step to restoring your tablet is to restore the operating system. This step will delete all data on your computer and remove all La Salle High School restrictions. The recovery software we’ll use is called Clonezilla, which is available from [[http://clonezilla.org/|clonezilla.org]]. Clonezilla will allow you to restore the HP factory image to your computer.
 +
+  - Start with the computer powered off and plugged-in to your charger.
+  - Unplug all storage devices (flash drives, SD cards, et cetera) from the computer. These extra devices may interfere with the imaging process.
+  - Insert your recovery USB drive into the USB port on the computer.
+  - Turn on the computer. When you see the HP logo, press **F9** on the keyboard.
+  - A boot menu will appear. Select the **USB hard drive** with the arrow keys and press enter.
+  - Wait while Clonezilla boots. You will see lots of text scrolling off of the screen while it loads.
+  - When the system has booted, you will see a message that all existing data will be lost. Press **y** on the keyboard and hit **ENTER** to continue.
+  - You will be warned again that all existing data will be lost. Press **y** on the keyboard and hit **ENTER** to continue.
+  - Wait while the machine is re-imaged. This can take up to 30 minutes.
+  - When the imaging process is complete, the system will power off automatically.
+  - Once the system has powered off, you have successfully re-imaged your tablet!
+  - Remove your recovery media from the computer. Store it somewhere safe.
 +
+====== Configure the Operating System ======
 +
+The last step in restoring your computer to defaults is to configure your newly-installed operating system. This is fairly simple, and can probably be done without using this guide.
 +
+  - Start with the computer powered off and plugged-in to your charger.
+  - When the computer boots, it will go through a series of processes to prepare Windows. It may reboot on its own during this setup process. This can take a long time.
+  - When Windows is ready, you will see a dialog prompting you to select your language. Click **My language is English** and click **Next** to continue.
+  - On the next page you will be prompted to select your Country, time and currency, and keyboard layout. You probably don’t need to change these, so press **Next**.
+  - You will be asked to enter a username for yourself and a name for the computer. Type in your name and a name for the computer. When done, press **Next**.
+    * You can name your computer anything you want! The core idea is that it should be //somewhat// unique.
+  - At the next screen, enter a password and password hint for your user account on the machine and click **Next**.
+  - Read through the Microsoft Software License Terms and check the box if you accept them. These terms come directly from Microsoft.
+  - Read through the End User License Agreement and check the box if you accept the license terms. These terms come directly from HP. Click **Next** to continue.
+  - At the next window, you will decide if Windows will update automatically. Click **Use recommended settings**.
+  - On the next screen, set the time zone to **(UTC -05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada)** (the time zone in Cincinnati, Ohio).
+  - Set the time and date (if necessary) then click **Next**.
+  - Next you may choose to connect to a nearby wireless network. If you do not have a network nearby, click **Skip**, otherwise click **Next**.
+    * If you are connected to a network, you can now choose your computer’s location. This affects what level of security is set on Windows firewall. If you are connected to your home network (or another network you trust) click **Home network**. This enables file sharing with other computers on that network (if you set it up). If you are not on a trusted network, click **Public network**.
+  - Windows will now finalize your settings and install HP software. This may take a long time.
+  - At the //Welcome to your New HP Computer// screen, click the **GO** button.
+    * If you see a window that says //You must restart your computer to apply these changes//, click **Restart Later**. Wait for the //Welcome to your New HP Computer// screen to appear.
+  - If you would like to register your computer with HP, fill out the form. Otherwise click **Register Later** (recommended).
+  - At the //Stay Updated// screen, under //Do you want to receive updates and alerts from HP?// click **Yes, download and install updates automatically (recommended).**
+  - Under //Do you want to participate in the Experience Improvement Program?//, select **No** and click **Next**.
+  - At the //Get Online// screen, click **Finish HP Setup**.
+  - At the //Setup//Complete screen, click **Finish**.
+  - Wait while Windows completes setup and loads your Desktop.
+  - Once the Desktop appears, you have successfully configured your operating system. Your computer is ready to use.
