This is an old revision of the document!


Restoring the factory image will remove all restrictions, software, and data on your tablet. Back up your data before proceeding. The process requires two general steps, in this order:

  1. Restore the BIOS to factory defaults.
  2. Restore the operating system.

What You Will Need

  1. Your recovery media issued by La Salle High School.
  2. Your laptop computer and charger.
  3. About 30 minutes.

Restore the BIOS to Factory Defaults

In order to boot your recovery media, you need to reset the BIOS settings to factory default.

  1. Start with the computer powered on and plugged-in to your charger.
  2. Restart the computer by clicking Restart in the Start menu.
  3. As the computer reboots, repeatedly tap the F1 key near the top left of the keyboard until you see the Entering Setup message.
  4. At the BIOS lock screen, type the password ln15flavor and press ENTER.
  5. Use the left/right arrow keys to navigate to the Restart screen.
  6. Use the up/down arrow keys to highlight OS Optimized Defaults.
  7. Press ENTER and use the arrow keys to select Enabled. Press ENTER.
  8. Highlight Load Setup Defaults and press ENTER.
  9. Select Yes and press ENTER.
  10. Use the left/right arrow keys to navigate to the Security screen.
  11. Highlight Password and press ENTER.
  12. Highlight Supervisor Password and press ENTER.
  13. Enter the current password, ln15flavor and press ENTER.
  14. Enter a new password or leave it blank. Press ENTER.
    • If you set a password and forget it, there is no way to reset it.
  15. Repeat the new password or leave it blank. Press ENTER.
  16. Press ENTER to continue.
  17. Press the ESC key at the top left of the keyboard.
  18. Highlight the Security Chip option and press ENTER.
  19. If the Clear Security Chip option is present, highlight it and press ENTER.
    1. At the Clear encryption keys dialog, select Yes and press ENTER.
  20. Press the ESC key.
  21. Press the ESC key again.
  22. Highlight Exit Saving Changes and press ENTER.
  23. Highlight Yes and press ENTER.
  24. When the system boots into BitLocker recovery, hold the power button down for five seconds to power it off.

Restore the Operating System

  1. Start with the computer powered off and plugged-in to your charger.
  2. Unplug all storage devices (flash drives, SD cards, etc.) from the computer.
  3. Insert your recovery media into the USB port on the computer.
  4. Turn on the computer and repeatedly tap the F12 key until you see the Entering Boot Menu message.
    • If your computer boots into Windows, you may need to restart from the Start Screen before you can access the boot menu.
  5. At the boot menu, use the arrow keys to select the USB HDD option and press ENTER.
    • If your arrow keys do not work. Power off the system by holding the power button and start again.
  6. At the Clonezilla screen, press ENTER to begin the restoration process.
  7. Wait while the machine is re-imaged. This can take up to 30 minutes.
  8. When the imaging process is complete, you may be prompted to remove the drive and press enter. Store your drive somewhere safe. The computer will turn off.
  9. Turn the computer back on. Wait until you see the Region and language screen.
  10. Continue through the setup screens answering the prompts. When you arrive at the desktop, you’ve successfully restored your computer.

Optional: Upgrade to Windows 10

You can upgrade to Windows 10 for free by visiting microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10. Download the upgrade tool. Run it and choose to upgrade the system. If anything goes wrong you can use your recovery media to undo the upgrade.
