Restoring the Factory Image on Your HP EliteBook 2730p Tablet
Now that you are leaving La Salle, you may re-image your tablet in order to remove all La Salle High School restrictions and software. Doing so will delete all data on your tablet, so make sure your data is backed up.
With this guide, you should have received a USB flash drive (referred to as your recovery media) which contains your restore image. This will be used to restore your operating system to default settings.
It is important that you do not modify or save any files on your recovery media! Doing so may prevent you from being able to restore your computer.
Overview
Restoring your tablet to its original state requires three general steps, listed below.
Restore the BIOS to factory defaults.
Restore the operating system to its default state.
Configure the operating system.
The order of these steps is important. If you do not restore your BIOS to factory defaults, you will not be able to restore your operating system; if you do not restore the operating system, you cannot configure it!

Restore the BIOS to Factory Defaults
The first step to restoring your tablet is to reset the BIOS settings. At La Salle, we restrict settings in the BIOS to improve security. In order for you to be able to boot your recovery media, you need to remove these restrictions.
Start with the computer powered off and plugged-in to your charger.
Turn on the computer. When you see the HP logo, tap F10 on the keyboard. You will be taken to the BIOS login screen.
Enter the BIOS password hpfac2010 and press enter.
Click on the “Reset BIOS security to factory default” button in the right pane. At the warning screen, click “YES”.
Click on the “Restore Defaults” button in the right pane. Click “Yes” when prompted.
Click “Save Changes and Exit”. Click “Yes” when prompted. The computer will reboot.
After the HP logo, you will see a dialog prompting you to “Clear the TPM”. Press F1 on the keyboard to perform this action. The computer will reboot.
After the HP logo, you will see a dialog prompting you to “Reset Fingerprint Sensor to factory Settings.” Press F1 on the keyboard to perform this action. The computer will reboot.
Shut down the computer.
The BIOS has now been restored to factory settings.
Restore the Operating System
The second step to restoring your tablet is to restore the operating system. This step will delete all data on your computer and in doing so will remove all La Salle restrictions. The recovery software we’ll use is called Clonezilla (available from http://clonezilla.org/). Clonezilla will allow you to re-image your machine.
Start with the computer powered off and plugged-in to your charger.
Unplug all storage devices (flash drives, SD cards, et cetera) from the computer as they may (at best) interfere with the imaging process, or may (at worst) be overwritten entirely.
Insert your recovery USB drive into the USB port on the computer.
Turn on the computer. When you see the HP logo, press F9 on the keyboard.
A boot menu will appear. Select “USB hard drive” with the arrow keys and press enter.
Wait while Clonezilla boots. You will see lots of text scrolling off of the screen while it loads.
When the system has booted, you will be warned that this process will overwrite all data on the disk. Press “y” on the keyboard and hit enter to continue.
You will be warned again that all data on the hard drive will be erased. Press “y” and hit enter to continue.
Wait while the machine is re-imaged. This can take 15-20 minutes.
When the imaging process is complete, the system will power off automatically.
Once the system has powered off, you have successfully re-imaged your tablet! Remove your recovery media from the computer.
The last step in restoring your computer to defaults is to configure your newly-installed operating system. This is fairly simple, and can probably be done without using this guide.
Start with the computer powered off and plugged-in to your charger.
Turn on the computer.
When the computer boots, it will go through a series of processes to prepare Windows 7. It may reboot on its own during this setup process.
When Windows is ready, you will see a dialog prompting you to select your language. Select “My language is English” and click “Next” to continue.
On the next page you will be prompted to select your language, time and currency, and keyboard layout. You probably don’t need to change these, so press “Next”.
At the next Window, you will be asked to enter your name and a name for the computer. Type in your name and a name for the computer—you can name your computer anything you want! When done, press “Next”.
At the next screen, enter a password and password hint for your user account on the machine and click next.
Read through the Microsoft Software License Terms and check the box if you accept them. Press next to continue.
At the next window, you will decide if Windows will update automatically. Click “Use recommended settings”.
On the next screen, set the time zone, time, and date (if necessary) then click next. The time zone in Cincinnati, Ohio is Eastern Time.
Next you may choose to connect to a nearby wireless network.
If you are connected to a network, you can now choose your computer’s location. This affects what level of security is set on Windows firewall. If you are connected to your home network (or another network you trust) click “Home network”. This enables file sharing with other computers on that network (if you set it up). If you are not on a trusted network, click “Public network”.
Windows will now finalize your settings and login under your user account.
You have now successfully configured your operating system. Your computer is ready to use.
Addendum
SD Card Reader Not Working
If your SD card reader is not working after you've re-imaged your tablet, you need to download the JMicron Media Card Reader Driver from HP and install it on your computer.
Fingerprint Software
Unable to Re-image
There were a small number of USB drives handed out that were defective. A few minutes into the re-imaging process, it would fail and error out. If you are experiencing this issue, please visit La Salle for a replacement.
